Mohamed Diomande looks to be heading to Rangers in the coming days in what looks to be a real change of approach from the club.

Rangers manager Philippe Clement needs to improve his squad but what he also needs to do is develop players who are capable of improving his team and making the club money in the future.

In Mohamed Diomande, Rangers could be getting someone who does both and it looks as though the journalist who broke the news is adamant that a deal is a foregone conclusion.

Mohamed Diomande to Rangers no rumour

As a football correspondent for Danish media outlet BT, Farzam Abolhosseini broke the story linking the Ivorian and has the inside track on what is an exciting transfer.

After detailing when DIomande could become a Rangers player, the reporter responded to one fan who had woken to the new transfer speculation by referring to it as a “transfer rumour”, something Abolhosseini to umbrage to:

“Rumour? Please go to sleep again then.”

He seems pretty confident.

On the face of it, Clement probably doesn’t look like he needs more depth in midfield, however, with Ryan Jack out of contract, Kieran Dowell unable to stay fit and Jose Cifuentes not looking like a good fit for Scottish football, fresh legs isn’t a bad idea.

The other angle is that Clement has inherited midfielders who are hybrids and not really specialists in any one particular role.

Mohamed Diomande is the type of player that Rangers have needed for some time in that he is a natural number eight, capable of resisting pressure, of building attacks and of being involved in the final third.

We’ve seen a lot of rumours and what looks like players who have been offered to Rangers being leaked, however, this follows on from Italian journalist Luca Bendoni breaking Fabio Silva’s move to Ibrox.

With more incomings expected, it would be a surprise to see the pattern change and the current radio silence out of the club maintained.

As with his press conferences, it looks like Clement doesn’t want anything given away.
