There is a saying about not looking gift horses in the mouth, one that also runs true about good players like Steven Alzate who has been linked with Rangers.
Brighton have reportedly offered the 25-year old midfielder to Gers boss Philippe Clement but Belgian journalist Sacha Tovolieri has claimed that there is no interest from the club, just now.
With Steven Alzate out of contract at the end of the season, Rangers can pick up an experienced international who would be perfect for the role in front of our defence, us not being interested could be good news for two of Clement’s squad though.

Steven Alzate rejection could mean Rangers extension for duo
There is a lengthy list of six players whose contracts expire at the end of this season, two of the names on it are Ryan Jack and John Lundstram.
The latter has barely missed a minute for Rangers since the manager arrived but Jack has had injury affecting his availability.
If Jack wasn’t Scottish, there is a very good case for him to have been released at the end of his initial contract, but he is, which means that he still has a role to play for European football.
Steven Alzate is better in possession that both Lundstram and Jack which makes you wonder why Clement wouldn’t want to make something happen and bring the Anglo-Colombian to Ibrox.
Yes, we are well stocked for midfielders but the two mentioned don’t need to be sold, we could simply let their contracts run out.
If Rangers are to progress that position is key.
The player responsible for linking defence and attack.
Lundstram isn’t short of effort but it is a position he has never played until he came to Rangers and it isn’t natural for him.
Losing Jack as a home-grown option can also be alleviated by offering Connor Barron a pre-contract agreement, a younger, more robust defensive midfielder who, potentially, has an even higher ceiling.
Unless Brighton are asking for silly money for a player approaching the end of their contract, it simply doesn’t make sense to turn our noses up.
Can we really build for the future with Jack and Lundstram still in midfield?
