If Philippe Clement is to strengthen the home-grown quota at Rangers then he could do a lot worse than looking at Connor Barron at Aberdeen.
The Scotland Under-21 international burst onto the scene in 2021/22 only to see two long-term injuries derail his progress.
It’s no longer a nice to have for Rangers in terms of recruiting domestic talent and players like Connor Barron don’t come around too often, with the midfielder revealing to the Press and Journal that he is back to his best.

Clement’s first signing for Rangers could be Connor Barron
With Ryan Jack and John Lundstram out of contract at the end of the season, Clement should look to bring more energy to the defensive midfield position.
Connor Barron might be diminutive, but then, Rino Gattuso wasn’t exactly big either.
Small he might be but Barron is focussed on being a force once again, via the Press and Journal:
“I feel back to myself now.
“Last season was a tough one for me with injuries.
“I had a good pre-season and in the recent games I’ve played I think I have done well when I got the opportunity.
“It’s just about me taking it and grabbing my place in this team.
“I believe in myself and know what I can do.”
The most attractive aspect of the 21-year old’s situation is that his contract expires at the end of this season, in January he will be free to discuss terms with other clubs.
Jack’s availability will only depreciate as his body gets older and it makes more sense to recruit a fitter, younger version.
That there is a Scottish option available makes even more sense to replace the Scotland international.

Rangers have missed out on several young and local talented players in recent years.
Aaron Hickey, Lewis Ferguson, Josh Doig, Kevin Nisbet and Max Johnston have all left these shores for affordable fees but, despite interest, nothing ever materialised.
Rangers should be keeping tabs on Connor Barron’s contract situation and letting his representatives know that, if he is patient, a move to Glasgow could be on the table – not that Aberdeen fans would be happy about it.
