Rangers appear to be closing in on a new signing with Nordsjaelland talent Mohamed Diomande reportedly nearing a move to Ibrox.

Rangers have only made one signing so far this month with striker Fabio Silva arriving on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Fans are keen to see more signings arrive before next week’s transfer deadline though and boss Philippe Clement probably feels the same way.

Danish newspaper BT now report that Nordsjaelland have agreed to sell midfielder Mohamed Diomande to Rangers.

Diomande is flying home from Nordsjaelland’s training camp in the United States and will soon undergo a medical.

It’s unclear just how much Rangers are paying to land Diomande, but let’s dig into his career as he prepares to move to Ibrox…

Mohamed Diomande, the story so far

Diomande hails from the Ivory Coast but came through the Right to Dream academy in Ghana, which has strong ties to Danish side Nordsjaelland.

The likes of Mohammed Kudus and Kamaldeen Sulemana have made that exact same move, making Nordsjaelland big money.

Diomande was handed a professional debut in February 2020 and hasn’t looked back, racking up 111 appearances for Nordsjaelland.

The 22-year-old has predominantly played as a central midfielder or number 10, bagging 13 goals and 14 assists in Denmark.

Diomande is yet to land a senior cap for the Ivory Coast but has earned an Under-23 cap and will be looking for those senior caps after moving to Rangers.

Mohamed Diomande player profile

Mohamed Diomande, what they say

“He is an all-round player. He is at his very best in the central midfield, where he usually takes up a lot of space. He is a player who covers a large area. He is a good dribbler. He is a good ball winner, pretty strong in the main game as well and physically strong,” – Former Nordsjaelland boss Flemming Pedersen.

“He hasn’t had his best season, but Mohamed Diomande still possesses a top level that few can match in the Danish Superliga. He is a player with excellent technique and a good drive on the ball, but he needs to become more decisive and stable to move up the list,” – Tipsbladet’s ranking of top attacking midfielders in Denmark.

“The fact that ‘Dio’ has performed at such a high and stable level from the start is not least due to his strong personality and ambition. He is a good boy who is also a real winner. He is tough on the pitch, but he is also a very intelligent player. He has already proven how versatile he is as he has played several different positions,” – Nordsjaelland sporting director Jan Laursen.

Mohamed Diomande to Rangers analysis

We can always get behind Rangers signing players with potential and Diomande certainly fits the bill.

Diomande offers Rangers something a little different in midfield as he can offer real drive through the middle of the pitch, carrying the ball forward to spark attacks.

Diomande has shown his willingness to get stuck in too, doing the ugly side of the game alongside his creative talents.

Nordsjaelland have seen Diomande make late runs into the box to score goals and he seems to be a flexible talent for Clement to use.

Diomande can play as a central midfielder breaking forward or as a number 10, supporting the attack high up the pitch.

That means Rangers can have plenty of options in terms of how to use Diomande and whilst he isn’t the finished product by any means, the Ivorian has the potential to make a big impact in Glasgow.
