Josh Doig is never too far away from being mentioned alongside Rangers.
Even back during the tenure of Steven Gerrard, Rangers were being tipped to move for the then-Hibernian left-back.
The interest is something which has since been confirmed by ex-Ibrox assistant Gary McAllister and since then Rangers transfer links have continued.
Having moved to Hellas Verona for £3m in the summer of 2022, 18 months later Rangers were once again being linked with a Josh Doig transfer.
But after the left-back sealed a £5m move to Serie A rivals Sassuolo – amid strong interest from Marseille – it looked like Rangers’ time to sign the kid had come and gone.
Well, until heartbreak struck in the Italian top flight for Sassuolo fans this season.

Doig suffers Serie A heartbreak
Only five months on from securing that move to Sassuolo, Josh Doig has just been relegated from Serie A.
The Italian club are down to Serie B with a game to spare and the situation has cast the futures of several of Sassuolo’s top stars into doubt.
Doig played the entire match as his team collapsed in a 2-0 defeat at home to Cagliari which consigned Sassuolo to the second tier after an 11 year stint in Serie A.
Josh Doig is obviously one of the most prominent names at the club, but there will also be doubts over the futures of players like Italian international Domenico Berardi and ex-West Ham star Pedro Obiang.
Rangers too might have one eye on the situation with Doig only linked to Ibrox a matter of months ago.
Rangers left-back transfer hunt goes on
Before Sassuolo splashed the cash to bring Josh Doig to the club in January, there was prominent reporting around a move to Rangers.
This came amid much conjecture over the futures of both Borna Barisic and Ridvan Yilmaz, who were linked with January exits.
Whilst both players stayed at the club, Barisic is out of contract in the summer and has since reportedly secured a pre-contract move to Trabzonspor in Turkey.
Galatasaray-linked Ridvan Yilmaz is also one of several players in the Rangers squad who’s injury availability has not been at the required standard.
It means that Rangers will likely be on the hunt for one, if not two new left-back options this summer and perhaps Josh Doig’s agent is worth a phone call.
That said, Doig isn’t the only left-back who was linked to Rangers in January
With Brazilian defender Jefte another prominent link from back in the winter window, the latest from APOEL suggests a move to Rangers isn’t quite off the cards just yet.
