Rangers have made a bid of €4.5m (£3.8m) for Heerenveen midfielder Joey Veerman, according to a report in Holland.
De Telegraaf are claiming that the Gers have submitted an offer €1m less than that of Serie A side Hellas Verona with Steven Gerrard a big admirer of the midfielder.
The Dutch report claims that Veerman must now make his own mind up over where he wishes to go next year with Rangers offering Champions League football.
This is despite the fact that Heerenveen are believed to value the player at double this amount, with Veerman himself expressing his frustration over this earlier in the week
De Telegraaf also references the pathway of ex-Celtic centre-back Virgil van Dijk, who played for the Parkhead club between 2013 and 2015.
The centre-back would go on to win the Champions League and Premier League with Liverpool and is widely regarded as amongst the best defenders in the world.
The insinuation is that Scotland has been a proven pathway for Dutch players in the past, something which may work in the Gers’ favour here.
The Veerman reports come after rumours spread like wildfire on online forums and on social media regarding a potential move for Veerman, who is 22.
These appeared to centre around comments from an “in the know” poster on popular Rangers forum Follow, Follow.
