Rangers fans have began to get excited on social media as rumours and “in the know” sources claim the club is moving for Heerenveen playmaker Joey Veerman.
Dutch midfielder Veerman, 22, is amongst the most high-profile transfer links to Ibrox this summer with the Gers, Atalanta, PSV and Ajax all linked this window [Scottish Sun].
But amid claims from Heerenveen boss Johnny Jansen that a deal could cost around £9m, this figure was seemingly outwith Rangers’ price range [Daily Record].
Serie A side Hellas Verona would then reportedly make their presence known, with a bid around €5m (£4.3m) enough to pique Veerman’s interest at least.
The midfielder made it clear he would consider a move to Italy before fuming at his club for seemingly rejecting the offer.
Furious at his asking price and hinting he would be open to a move to Rangers, the entire saga appeared to be at a stalemate.
That’s despite claims Rangers were “very interested”.
Rangers are still very interested in signing Heerenveen midfielder Joey Veerman who is eager to leave the club to play in the Champions League.
Rangers have made an approach for the 22-year old midfielder and it is understood a fee of between £6-8 Million is being discussed. pic.twitter.com/vJmGiHnzmR

This was until early yesterday evening when several tweets, fan pages and online forums started blowing up with talk of a £5.5m Rangers move with £2m in add-ons.
These claims appear to have originated from an “in the know” user on popular forum Follow Follow but they have yet to be carried by any major newspaper.
Still, that hasn’t stopped fans getting mega-excited about the prospect of a move on social media as Veerman fever spreads through Ibrox legions:
Keep seeing people wondering what Joey Veerman would bring to Rangers if we signed him so I'll add a wee edit of different games of his amazing passing range and positional/space awareness. He's a great midfielder who is only 22, he is the SC Heerenveen number 20 in Blue/white. pic.twitter.com/OlqqABYwIT

The Veerman rumours may be true, the Veerman rumours may be false, but what's undeniably accurate is I'm all for getting really emotionally invested in this transfer rumour until the inevitable heartbreak of him signing elsewhere. Joey Veerman hype train here we go confirmed 🇳🇱🚂

To say that is highly impressive would be an understatement.
If we're going to lose Kamara for a good fee, getting Veerman in would be an unbelievable bit of business https://t.co/4MTv9EDzPe

Looks like Rangers interest in Joey Veerman is genuine👀

The Joey Veerman to Rangers rumours have been circulating for months, I’m still wary of interest from Italy but it shows what we want:
1) A Steven Davis replacement;
2) Focus our spending on quality over quantity as we did back in 2010 with Nikica Jelavic.
I’m excited 🐝 https://t.co/nmLceejyUd

Joey Veerman……..please let there be substance to these rumours!
Thats the quality addition we are needing. That would be us ready to go, and would only then need to replace any outgoings.

If we seriously get Joey Veerman what a signing it will be remaining cautious though

Exciting to see the Joey Veerman thing is still a thing! Huge young talent

Joey Veerman looks a player but I don’t know if I see Rangers paying 6-8m for him. Could be wrong 🤷🏽♂️?

We need to be clear that we’re just as in the dark over this one as the rest of the support is but Veerman is clearly a popular option amongst supporters.
The midfielder playmaker would also help fill one of two holes in the squad we found in the squad during a squad analysis.
