Rangers fans have began to get excited on social media as rumours and “in the know” sources claim the club is moving for Heerenveen playmaker Joey Veerman.

Dutch midfielder Veerman, 22, is amongst the most high-profile transfer links to Ibrox this summer with the Gers, Atalanta, PSV and Ajax all linked this window [Scottish Sun].

But amid claims from Heerenveen boss Johnny Jansen that a deal could cost around £9m, this figure was seemingly outwith Rangers’ price range [Daily Record].

Serie A side Hellas Verona would then reportedly make their presence known, with a bid around €5m (£4.3m) enough to pique Veerman’s interest at least.

The midfielder made it clear he would consider a move to Italy before fuming at his club for seemingly rejecting the offer.

Furious at his asking price and hinting he would be open to a move to Rangers, the entire saga appeared to be at a stalemate.

That’s despite claims Rangers were “very interested”.

This was until early yesterday evening when several tweets, fan pages and online forums started blowing up with talk of a £5.5m Rangers move with £2m in add-ons.

These claims appear to have originated from an “in the know” user on popular forum Follow Follow but they have yet to be carried by any major newspaper.

Still, that hasn’t stopped fans getting mega-excited about the prospect of a move on social media as Veerman fever spreads through Ibrox legions:

We need to be clear that we’re just as in the dark over this one as the rest of the support is but Veerman is clearly a popular option amongst supporters.

The midfielder playmaker would also help fill one of two holes in the squad we found in the squad during a squad analysis.
