Hearts have given teenage striker James Wilson the opportunity to speak to Premier League clubs amid links to Rangers in shades of the deal which took Rory Wilson to Aston Villa.

Rangers have been linked with a move with 16-year-old striker James Wilson but the player is also being chased by Old Firm rivals Celtic as well as Premier League pair Aston Villa and Leeds Utd.

Now, the Edinburgh Evening News are claiming that the teenage striker has been given permission to speak to clubs down south with Hearts hoping to recoup a six-figure fee for the player.

James Wilson has played for the Hearts U18s and B Team this season and is widely regarded as one of the brightest talents to come out of Riccarton in recent years.

The report claims that a decision is set to be made on the player’s future very soon with some previous reports claiming James Wilson is likely to join Leeds Utd.

Shades of Rory Wilson in James Wilson Rangers report

Rangers have to compete with the millions on offer down in the Premier League in order to snap up these youngsters and whilst there have been some examples of doing so, it is becoming increasingly more difficult.

This is summed up by the situation involving Rory Wilson, who came through at Rangers but departed for Aston Villa in the summer.

Whilst Villa reportedly paid £300k in compensation for Rory Wilson, Rangers lost a prolific youth striker who might’ve ended the baron spell of Scottish number nines coming through and establishing themselves at the club.

James Wilson now looks increasingly unlikely to join Rangers but fans will be watching the young Hearts striker’s situation closely as he is given permission to speak to clubs in the Premier League.

Rangers will instead be looking more closely at home for young striking talent with the likes of Robbie Ure and Zak Lovelace making their top team debuts this season.
