Rangers are set to sign Croatian goalkeeper Ivor Pandur from Hull City in a player-plus-cash swap deal.

Pandur is on the cusp of joining the Premiership heavyweights, with Jack Butland heading in the other direction, according to an exclusive report from Hull Live.

The report explains that Rangers and Hull City have edged closer to agreeing on an ‘eye-catching’ swap deal involving Pandur and Butland.

The Andrew Cavenagh-led club are believed to be paying £6million to acquire the 26-year-old from the newly-promoted Premier League club.

Hull City fast-track Pandur sale to avoid FFP breach

Rangers are essentially giving Butland to Hull City on top of the £6m fee to acquire the services of the Croatia international, as part of the swap deal.

This will see the Tigers make a handsome profit on the goalkeeper, who they signed from Fortuna Sittard for £1.5m in January 2023.

Hull City have been forced into selling Pandur, as well as Kyle Joseph, to avoid breaching Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules.

Sergej Jakirovic’s side stand to receive £11m from the sales of Pandur and Joseph, thus clearing their £6m FFP deficit comfortably.

As for Rangers, they will have a new number one between the sticks next season, as they kick off a new era under the tutelage of Derek McInnes.

Rangers on cusp of landing exciting goalkeeper

It has been evident for a while that Rangers need a new number one after Butland left a lot to be desired on several occasions last season.

While the former Stoke City shot-stopper’s leadership is admirable, his deteriorating ability between the sticks put the Gers under significant pressure last term.

Therefore, it should come as no surprise that the Ibrox outfit prioritised the signing of a new goalkeeper following the appointment of McInnes this summer.

Rangers have been linked with several goalkeepers already, including Manchester United’s Radek Vitek, but appear to have zeroed in on Pandur.

With Hull City’s FFP threat putting them under pressure, Cavenagh and Co. have moved quickly and decisively to take advantage of the situation.
