Ally McCoist has hinted that it could be a good summer for Rangers fans as Michael Beale sets about rebuilding his squad.
The Gers gaffer inherited a squad that he helped to build, however, it is in need of some serious TLC, and every department needing attention.
So far, most of the names being linked have been free transfers with Jack Butland and Kieran Dowell the two that are claimed to be close to completion.
Beale himself has been speaking to players already and it may be that the two English based players are first through the door when the transfer window opens.
What has Ally McCoist said about Rangers summer transfer spend?
Speaking on The Overlap on an Old Firm Special with fan media representatives in attendance, Ally McCoist – when prompted by Chris Sutton – hinted that he has maybe heard of some positive news from behind the scenes when asked about a busy window for Rangers:
“I hope so, I hope it’s the case, I don’t know. I’m on the outside looking in.
“We’ll make enough signings to worry you (Sutton) that’s all you need to know.”
This aligns with what Beale has already said when asked if budget restrictions could affect his rebuild:
“There’s no restrictions on budget. There is money to spend in the summer and it’s a good amount for a Rangers manager compared to what I’ve seen in recent years.
“I’m really positive about the summer. But at the moment we’re still playing in this season and there’s things to play for. I appreciate everyone wants us to communicate outwards about which players we’re signing and which players are staying but it doesn’t work like that.”
Michael Beale, in Ross Wilson’s absence, has to be clever.
Where top quality free transfers can be secured then he should take advantage of them so that there is more money for other key positions.
Having money to spend means that Rangers can go for the target at the top of the list, rather than the one that is available or has maybe got a chequered past.
Now wouldn’t that be a novelty?
