“I fully expect…’ – Manager gives Kwame Poku transfer verdict as Rangers consider winger move

Rangers fans could do with a bit of good news this summer and signing players like Kwame Poku would be a start.

The Ghana international is set to leave Peterborough United despite a record offer from the club with the 23-year old’s contract expiring in a matter of weeks.

Poku has been watched by Rangers, something confirmed by Barry Fry himself, however, it wouldn’t be the first time that the football legend has used either side of the Old Firm to spark interest down south.

With 20 goal involvements in 27 league games – Poku missed nearly 20 games due to a hamstring injury – there is a reason why so many clubs are keeping tabs on the flying winger’s position.

Speaking to the Peterborough Times, Posh manger Darren Ferguson has given his thoughts on where he thinks Kwame Poku will be playing his football next season.

Rangers target Kwame Poku tipped for the Premier League

Ferguson had hoped to keep Poku, however, he has no doubts that his main man is destined for the top:

“I fully expect Kwame to sign for a top Championship club and he could then go on and play in the Premier League,” Ferguson told the Peterborough Times.

“He’s had an exceptional season even though he’s missed 20 games or so because of injury. To get in the League One select team shows how good he was when he played.”

According to the report, the belief is that the player would rather stay in England than head north and play for Rangers.

After Ivan Toney and Siriki Dembele, if Poku does turn a move to Ibrox down, you would think that Rangers might give up trying to persuade Peterborough’s players to join them.

The one concern that might see Rangers pull the plug on Poku

Poku has the right profile in that he has proven he can compete in a physical league as well as get good numbers too.

The worry though, would be the hamstring injury that kept him out for three months of the season.

Like Rabbi Matondo, Poku is a fast-twitch muscle athlete, he’s quick, very quick, and as a result, he might be prone to injury.

In fairness, Poku has played over 200 games in England already and this season saw his first absence through injury.

As Rangers fans well know though, players like Danilo and Oscar Cortes arrived on Scottish shores with a clean bill of health and we all know what has happened to them.
