Haji Wright fires Coventry to the FA Cup semi-finals and a date with Wembley destiny – but only nine months ago he was being linked with Rangers.
The big USA international forward, 25, netted a late injury time winner to break Wolves hearts and knock the Premier League side out of the FA Cup.
In a quite remarkable end to the game, Ellis Simms – another striker who was linked to Rangers earlier in his career – had give Championship Coventry a second half lead.
But late Wolves goals from Rayan Aït-Nouri (83) and Hugo Bueno (88) looked to have turned the tie at Molineux before a late, late show from the Skyblues.
Up stepped Ellis Simms to net an equaliser in the 93rd minute, before Haji Wright repaid the club record £7.7m Coventry spent on signing him from Antalyaspor in the summer with a 100th minute winner.
Rangers ‘bid for’ Coventry-bound Haji Wright
Rangers fans will remember the name Haji Wright from the summer when the Ibrox side was the hunt for more firepower to bolster their squad.
Signing a new frontman was the order of the day for then manager Michael Beale, with reports in Turkey suggesting Rangers had put forward a £7m proposal.
For whatever reason, this did not tickle Antalyaspor’s fancy before Coventry swooped in and stumped up to sign the 25-year-old hitman.
Replace Sporting Lisbon-bound attacker Viktor Gyokeres, it’s been a very interesting first season in England for Haji Wright.
This is undoubtedly the moment of his Coventry career to date, with the striker now netting 15 goals in 40 appearances in the West Midlands, including a double in a recent Championship win over Watford.
Gers opted to move elsewhere
Rangers instead opted to move elsewhere in the transfer market and the results have been – shall we say – mixed.
Cyriel Dessers joined from Cremonese for a reported £4.5m and has toiled in the big moments, even if he’s shown flashes of what he’s capable of.
Brazilian striker Danilo also joined in a £6m deal from Feyenoord, and has spent the bulk of the season sidelined with a devastating knee injury.
Rangers, although on course for a treble, might be thinking what might’ve been had Haji Wright moved to Ibrox instead of Coventry.

The result sends Coventry to Wembley to play in an FA Cup semi-final, where they’ll be joined by Manchester City following Saturday’s results.
The other FA Cup quarter-finals are set to be contested between Chelsea & Leicester and Manchester United & Liverpool.
