Intriguing comments from Steven Gerrard suggest that Allan McGregor could earn a new Rangers contract if he maintains strong performance levels this season, as quoted by the Scotsman.
The veteran goalkeeper’s current deal expires at the end of the current campaign and a series of niggles saw him miss most of pre-season and several early Premiership fixtures.

However, after returning to fitness and waiting patiently for his opportunity, he delivered the goods on Thursday night.
The 38-year-old was lauded by Gers fans for a stunning display in goals as he pulled off a number of excellent saves in the 4-0 Europa League qualifying win over Willem II.
Gary McAllister has since praised the former Scotland international [RangersTV] and although Gerrard isn’t making any guarantees just yet, he’s hinted McGregor could stay on beyond the end of the current campaign.
“Listen, it is too early to discuss all of that [a new deal],” said the Gers boss, as quoted by the Scotsman. “He has just recently signed a new extension, he is here for the season.”
“We are all aware of his age but he is still rated and loved as much as he was when he was younger. We will take it month by month.
“Listen, if he is still in the same shape and he is still producing the same performances at the time that we need to discuss it, that will be a decision for Allan McGregor. But one thing is for sure, we will certainly want to keep him around the football club.”

Gerrard hints Rangers could offer Allan McGregor contract extension later this season – Verdict
The coaching staff have made their admiration for McGregor clear over the past few days after his heroics in the Netherlands.
His injury problems in recent times have been a little concerning with his 39th birthday on the horizon but his reactions certainly aren’t slowing down.
Gerrard’s intriguing comments suggest that McGregor himself will be the one who ultimately decides whether or not he carries on into next season.
Yet, regardless of his decision, it seems that a role will be found for him at Ibrox, either between the sticks or potentially as a member of the coaching staff.
Whatever happens with the veteran, the Gers won’t be short in the goalkeeping department. Jon McLaughlin has impressed since joining the club earlier this summer and is under contract until 2022, while Scotland youth international Robby McCrorie is currently on loan at Livingston and is regarded by many as a future Ibrox no.1.
