Rangers assistant manager Gary McAllister has lauded Allan McGregor following the goalkeeper’s outstanding display against Willem II on Thursday night, as captured by RangersTV.
The veteran replaced Jon McLaughlin in the starting XI for the Europa League third-round qualifier and earned widespread praise from supporters for pulling off several outstanding saves across the 90 minutes.

The hosts seemed certain to score in the 34th minute, just after half-time and with ten minutes remaining, but on all three occasions, McGregor somehow managed to keep them at bay.
Speaking on Friday afternoon, McAllister lauded the former Scotland international.
‘I thought in the early stages of the game Allan made a wonderful save and in the second half a couple of great saves,” he said, as captured by RangersTV. “Coming back in, I think he showed a real strong mentality as well.”
“He’s a guy that plays with pure emotion and passion for this club but I thought his mentality and his ability to make a crucial save has served us really well in these European campaigns. He seems to have done it on quite a few away grounds.”
However, the Gers assistant wasn’t willing to say which keeper would start the upcoming Premiership fixture against Motherwell.
“As far as moving forward, we’ve got two very good goalkeepers,” he concluded.
McAllister lauds Rangers star Allan McGregor for stellar European showing – Verdict
It has been a difficult start to the season for McGregor, who missed a number of matches due to niggles and then had to wait his turn behind the impressive Jon McLaughlin.
However, after benefitting from a Vangelis Pavlidis miss when he spilled an early shot in Tilburg, the veteran was outstanding.
The scoreline could have looked very different had it not been for the 38-year-old and he has surely now won back the no.1 jersey.
McAllister may not have been prepared to say so, but it would be a big surprise if McGregor wasn’t between the sticks at Fir Park on Sunday.
