Rangers will need to strengthen in January with Philippe Clement already having to make alternate plans.
If Cyriel Dessers moves to Ligue 1, the manager will need more depth in the squad at striker, but injuries mean that defence has become an area of concern.
Neraysho Kasanwirjo’s knee surgery left Rangers short at right back and centre half, however, John Souttar being out for weeks means that signing a central defender is now a priority.

Daniel Amartey could solve Rangers defensive crisis
Pickings are slim in January, but a loan deal could be a possibility.
There is also a free agent Premier League winner who has 55 international caps to his name and who Rangers have been linked with in the past.
Daniel Amartey was released by Besiktas in the summer after a transfer window in which the 29-year old took some bizarre steps to avoid being sold.
According to Besiktas spokesperson Huseyin Yucel, Amartey didn’t quite understand the workings of the transfer window:
“Amartey is a strange person. We made an agreement with a team from Saudi Arabia, but he did not get on the plane,” said Yucel.
“We agreed [a deal] with Eyupspor, but he escaped through the back door of our facilities.
“He said: ‘I will go to Germany or England’. When he was told the transfer window is closed, he said: ‘How will it close?'”
What sort of deal could Rangers sign Amartey on?
Amartey has a solid injury history over the last four years and still has a lot of football left in his legs given his age and position.
Having won trophies in England, Turkey and Denmark, he also knows what it takes to win.
If Amartey wants to play in England, a short-term deal until the summer with an option to extend could work well for both parties and provide a temporary solution.
He could also be the long-term replacement for Leon Balogun – if he wants to get on the plane.
