A lot can be done in a day, but Rangers are really pushing it if they are to give Philippe Clement the numbers that he needs.
The manager is patiently waiting for members of his squad to head out the Ibrox exit door after being deemed surplus to requirements before he can bring new players in.
What this means is that Rangers will have to do all the groundwork for potential signings so that dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s is a formality.
There are a few names in the mix, however, according to Fabrizio Romano, one player who won’t be signing is Almeria’s Kaiky.

Rangers dealt blow in pursuit of centre-half Kaiky
The Brazilian youth international was once the subject of a £17m agreement with Barcelona such was his early promise at Santos.
Speaking to GiveMeSport, the transfer supremo reckons that Rangers will have to look elsewhere after a £6m loan to buy offer:
“I don’t think the Kaiky deal with Almeria is happening, because they want to keep the player.
“They’re not accepting the loan with the buy clause, but in general I think they (Rangers) will be active.”
It looks like Clement is also going to miss out on Stanley N’Soki who is reported to be heading to Lille after a loan offer was made to Hoffenheim.
No sooner had that story broke than a new name was dropped into the conversation in the shape of Marseille defender Bamo Meite.
All three of these players meet the sort of player trading model that Nils Koppen detailed to the fan advisory board.
Rangers spinning multiple plates in centre-half hunt
It isn’t a case of starting at the top of the list and working down the way as budgets change or the selling clubs have a change of plans.
It is a plan that Philippe Clement is fully behind, despite how frustrating it might be just now:
“We have our plan and I feel that everybody is aligned, that the club really wants to make an effort to do things inside of the budget.
“This season to have five players out of contract is a crazy situation because you throw away money. They have no value any more if the contract is ended.
“I know that we are not the most wealthy club in the world. We want to get transfers in that can have an impact now but also can have added value for the next couple of years on the field and selling them for bigger amounts.”
Given the stage of the window, Rangers might have to settle for getting in players who can improve the first XI, regardless of whether it is a loan, option to buy or permanent transfer.
It’s been a long summer, but the next 24 hours will fly by for the Rangers manager.
