Rangers have three days to sign the quality players that Philippe Clement is looking for to win the Scottish Premiership title.
The manager hinted that new faces could be arriving this week and that more incomings that outgoings were expected.
A promising statement given that Ben Davies has left, Scott Wright is heading to Birmingham City and Todd Cantwell is in talks with Blackburn Rovers.
After Davies departed, a new centre-half became a priority, and Clement could be in line for a reunion according to French media outlet L’Equipe.
Rangers in talks for Hoffenheim defender Stanley N’Soki
Having signed and then sold Stanley N’Soki at Club Brugges – doubling the money paid for the defender – the Gers boss is fully aware of the French defender’s qualities.
According to L’Equipe, Rangers are already in discussions and considering a loan move for the Hoffenheim stopper:
“Stanley N’Soki could leave the Bundesliga this summer.
“The Hoffenheim central defender (25 years old, under contract until 2027) could be loaned before the end of the transfer window.
“The Rangers of his former coach in Bruges, Philippe Clement, would like to get the Frenchman back this season.
“Discussions have continued on this subject in recent hours.”
Rangers need to bring upgrades to Ibrox and players who immediately strengthen the squad.
What this means is that risk has to be minimised.
There is the core of a decent team now but it is the lack of depth or having to rely on the availability of players like Leon Balogun and Tom Lawrence that is a concern.
N’Soki versatility could be useful for Philippe Clement
Capable of playing as a left-back, N’Soki would bring a versatility that is much-needed in defence and was sold by Brugges for a cool £10m.
As a natural lefty having played in Ligue 1 and the Bundesliga, he would also be expected to be first choice alongside Robin Propper.
John Souttar has been solid in recent weeks but, like Balogun, has the sort of medical file that will always make the next absence feel like it is just around the corner.
Aside from signing established players like Propper and Vaclav Cerny, identifying individuals like N’Soki makes recruitment a lot easier.
Clement knows what he offers, and how he plays, with the 25-year old former France Under-21 international fully aware of how the manager works and wants his teams to play.
Signing players later in the window can be fraught with danger, however, on this occasion, N’Soki represents a safe bet.
All Rangers have to do now is persuade Hoffenheim to let him go.
