Rangers have been linked with a move for Lewis Ferguson for the past few months, as his future at Bologna remains uncertain.

Ally McCoist is keen on a Ferguson reunion as he believes that he can make the Ibrox outfit a formidable side going into the new season.

Rangers will need to pay £12m if they are to re-sign the 26-year-old, who is currently plying his trade with Scotland at the World Cup.

If Lewis Ferguson joins post the World Cup, who should Derek McInnes name the Rangers captain?

Rangers not in talks with Lewis Ferguson or Bologna over a transfer

Sources have told Rangers News that, despite reports to the contrary, the Ibrox outfit are not currently in talks with Bologna or Lewis Ferguson over a transfer.

While he is someone who is liked by the Ibrox hierarchy, a deal is still a long way from happening, and is not even understood to be a priority this summer.

Rangers News understands that Bologna’s reported interest in Nicolas Raskin is not understood to be connected to Ferguson.

Nicolas Raskin has been linked with a Rangers exit…

The Belgium midfielder’s future is a separate issue, and there is nothing to suggest that a potential swap deal could be on the cards.

Raskin wants to leave Ibrox this summer, as reported back in May, but it remains unclear whether or not Ferguson is open to returning to his former club.

The 26-year-old is currently focused on the World Cup and will then gauge his options if indeed he has decided to leave Bologna.

Is Ferguson’s move to Ibrox likely this summer?

Ferguson is a player who has been linked with a return to Ibrox for the past few years, but the deal has never materialised.

He is the captain and best player at Bologna, and while there has been no confirmation that he will not consider an exit this summer, he has also not even hinted that he wants to leave.

There is speculation surrounding his future every summer, as is the case with a lot of players.

If he were to be considering an exit, then a return to Ibrox would emerge as a prospect.

However, from whatever Rangers News has gathered, he does not seem to have a return to Scotland as a priority.

At 26, he is close to his prime, doing well for his country on the world stage, and believes that he can get a move to one of Europe’s top five leagues.
