Newly promoted Championship side Plymouth Argyle are set to break their transfer record to sign Swansea attacker Morgan Whittaker – just months on from when Rangers failed with a bid.
According to BBC Sport, Plymouth will pay around £1m for the 22-year-old who spent the first half of last season on loan with the then League One side.

Back in the Championship for the first time in 13 years, this is a record outlay for Plymouth with Swansea set to make a £250k profit on Morgan Whittaker having signed the attacker from Derby County in 2021.
Last season, Plymouth were clear they did not want Morgan Whittaker to leave the club after Swansea recalled the forward midway through the season.
Morgan Whittaker set for Plymouth switch after Rangers bid
Whilst this did not derail Plymouth’s season, it did Morgan Whittaker’s, and the attacker struggled to break into the Swansea team in the latter half of the campaign.
To make matters more confusing, Rangers were said to have launched a January bid for the forward with Michael Beale even admitting as much when pressed by journalists.
However the Ibrox manager was clear that there was only one bid for the attacker and that it was not to the tune of £2m, as had been reported by Fabrizio Romano.
Now, Morgan Whittaker will be the marquee signing for Plymouth as they look to take on the Championship and dependent on how the player does, Rangers fans might be left wondering what if.

However, even though Whittaker has been linked this summer Rangers’ attentions appear to have been firmly focused elsewhere with the club’s recruitment seeing a revamped attack this season.
Sam Lammers joined Rangers from Atalanta, whilst Abdallah Sima signed on loan from Brighton and Cyriel Dessers joined from Cremonese.
Rangers are also said to be tailing Brazilian striker Danilo, whilst those Ibrox links to Morgan Whittaker have gone increasingly cold over the last few months.
