The sporting director of Championship-bound Plymouth Argyle has hinted that a move for Swansea City’s Rangers-linked winger Morgan Whittaker is “very much alive”.

Former Derby County man Neil Dewsnip has been speaking as the Pilgrims prepare for a stint in the English second flight following their promotion last season.

And the Plymouth director claims that the club remains in discussions over more permanent deals for several of the loan players who helped inspire their promotion charge last season.

Whilst Dewsnip did not get into specifics, he certainly hinted that a Plymouth move for Morgan Whittaker could still be on the cards as the club looks to consolidate their Championship status this season.

It comes with Plymouth Argyle making six loan signings last season, Morgan Whittaker joining Argyle Finn Azaz, Sam Cosgrove, Nigel Lonwijk, Jay Matete, and Bali Mumba at the League One side.

“I would love one or two of them, if not more, to return,” said Dewsnip. “They all have different circumstances.

“We have already talked about the possibility of some of them returning. Some of those conversations were stopped dead, some of them are very much alive.”

Plymouth linked to Morgan Whittaker as Rangers reports go cold

Rangers were extensively linked with a move for Morgan Whittaker in January last season, with Michael Beale admitting the club had launched a bid for the Swansea City winger.

This is after the Welsh side had recalled Morgan Whittaker from his loan spell at Plymouth, where the 22-year-old’s nine League One goals were inspiring the club’s promotion charge.

A move to Rangers did not materialise then but there have been murmurs once again this summer that the Ibrox side remain interested as they look to replace the influence of Fenerbahce-bound Ryan Kent.

Links between Rangers and Morgan Whittaker have gone quiet in recent weeks but it does appear that Plymouth remain interested at a time of upheaval at Swansea City.

The Championship side have just announced the departure of manager and former Rangers defender Russell Martin, who has moved to freshly relegated Southampton.
