Dutch striker Sam Lammers has been spotted on the first day of Rangers training as Michael Beale explains the club failed with an earlier bid for the forward.

The big Dutchman was being put through his paces alongside his new teammates at the club’s training ground as prepares to begin a new chapter in his disrupted career.

Michael Beale has also been speaking about Sam Lammers ahead of the new campaign, and claims that he sees the towering attacker as more of a number 10.

Speaking to RangersTV, the English manager also revealed that he is very familiar with Sam Lammers from his days with PSV Eindhoven’s youth set up from Beale’s time with Chelsea’s Academy.

Signed in the summer on a reported £3.5m deal from Atalanta in Serie A, Michael Beale claims that it’s not the first time Rangers have moved for the attacker.

“I know Sam [Lammers] really well from being an Academy coach and playing against the PSV youth teams,” said Beale.

“He’s a boy we tried to recruit at Rangers previously and we weren’t able to afford him because he went to Serie A for big money.

“He’s moved around a bit the last couple of years and hasn’t found a home. He has a home now, he’s a No. 10 that brings so much versatility to our game.

“He’s another left footer like Kieran so gives us fantastic balance in those positions which we lost when we lost Joe Aribo.

“He has a really good presence, is a goal threat and I was really excited to bring him in.”

Highlighting the transfer demands of Atalanta given the player’s expensive transfer to Italy from PSV – believed to be in the region of £8m – it speaks volumes Rangers have penned such an expensive deal when the 26-year-old’s deal in Italy only had a year to run.

But given Michael Beale’s comments, it appears Sam Lammers is someone very familiar to the Rangers manager and we’re sure the ex-Ibrox assistant will have a plan to get the most from the player.

Rangers’ transfer business isn’t going to stop there either, with the Ibrox side said to be closing in on signing number six.
