Rangers have reportedly ‘agreed a deal in principle’ with Cyriel Dessers with the Cremonese striker expected to become Mick Beale’s sixth signing of the summer already.
If the deal looked dead a around a week ago, then it’s certainly alive and kicking now.
Sky Sports say that – following a lengthy back and forth between Rangers and Cremonese – the side relegated from Serie A at the end of last term have finally agreed to accept an offer that will see Cyriel Dessers join Abdallah Sima, Kieran Dowell, Jack Butland, Dujon Sterling and Sam Lammers at Ibrox.
Sky do not share exactly how much Rangers are paying for Dessers.

The Gers reportedly saw a £3 million bid rejected earlier in the window. Cremonese were holding out for around £7 million, though there is also a chance that Dessers could end up joining on loan with a purchase-option included in his contract (Tuttomercatoweb).
“There is a negotiation with Rangers underway,” Cremonese sporting director Simone Giacchetta told Sport Italia this week. “But at the moment everything is at a standstill. We are waiting for them to formulate the new proposal.”
With Sky now reporting that a deal is on the verge of being completed at last, it seems that Rangers have done just that. Their latest ‘proposal’ enough to twist Cremonese’s arm.
Cyriel Dessers finally on his way to Rangers
Dessers arrives after scoring six Serie A goals in 2022/23. Like former Heerenveen talisman Sam Lammers, he was far more prolific in the Netherlands, however, winning the Eredivisie’s Golden Boot with Heracles before netting 20 times for a Feyenoord side who were indebted to his ‘man for the big occasion’ tendencies as they reached the inaugural UEFA Conference League final.
“If you want a guy who waits for the moment, doesn’t get involved that much in the build-up and gets in the box, then it’s Dessers,” Rangers legend Ronald de Boer tells the Daily Record.
“Dessers is a very opportunistic player. If he’s not in form, or when the confidence is not there, he’s a very limited player. Then you think; ‘Who the hell did we sign here!’.
“But when the guy has confidence then you think; ‘Woah! Where is this coming from?’. Because when he’s playing at his best, he does everything on instinct. He waits for his prey and then he attacks.
“If he feels good he’ll give Rangers a lot of pleasure. If you want a type like (Alfredo) Morelos then there is no doubt, you go for Dessers.”
It remains to be seen what impact Dessers’ arrival will have on Rangers pursuit of Danilo. The man who, ironically enough, took the 28-year-old Nigerian’s place at Feyenoord last summer.
