Rangers will always attract good players and will also always see their name dropped when agents want to move their clients on to pastures new.
Philippe Clement and Nils Koppen will always have their own shortlist, however, there may be other players become available who tick the boxes that they need.
The Gers boss has signed five young players already having lost five players over the age of 30 but he knows that experience is now needed.
Rangers have a chance to reignite Divock Origi interest
Speaking recently, Clement revealed that he is fully aware of what needs to be done:
“We were focused on everything, but it is easier earlier to get the young players in, but for the rest of the transfer window there will also be experience coming into the building and we need a good balance in the squad and in the team of both.”
One player who is available who might normally be out of Rangers reach is Divock Origi, a player who won the Champions League with Liverpool in 2018/19.
The AC Milan striker has fallen on hard times after leaving Liverpool with the 29-year old being given a harsh reality check by a former teammate.
According to CalcioMercato, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who is an advisor to AC Milan’s owners, has taken the decision to dump Origi into the club’s B team who will be playing in Serie C next season:
“Origi and [Fode] Ballo-Toure have been called up, but they will play for Milan Futuro (the reserve team).
“They are not part of the first team project.”
Could Origi be the experience that Clement needs?
Divock Origi was linked with Rangers in 2021 and he would still be a useful addition to Philippe Clement’s squad.
Should Cyriel Dessers be sold, the 32-times capped Belgium international could be a cut-price option to replace the oft-maligned striker.
His injury history is nothing to worry about with around 20 games missed since 2020 but it is clear that he needs somewhere to help rediscover his best form.
Origi can play centrally or wide of a striker and still has the sort of pace that made him a handful for Premier League and European defenders.
It is unlikely that he will want to spend next season in the third tier of Italian football and, with two years left of his contract in Milan, a loan deal will probably be a possibility.
As with his time at Liverpool, being able to rotate in and out of the team could benefit Origi and Clement will no doubt be fully aware of his compatriots situation.
Rangers were ‘monitoring’ Origi’s situation in 2021, they would be wise to do so again in 2024.
