As Rangers reportedly line up a move for LAFC star Jose Cifuentes, the MLS side might just have been toasting the midfielder’s perfect send-off on Twitter.
The Ecuadorean international, 24, is said to have “agreed terms” on a prospective contract with Rangers as the Ibrox club look to negotiate a deal with the Americans to let the out-of-contract midfielder leave this month.

But amid reports a deal is imminent, the midfielder continues to rock up in California and in a stunning LAFC display this week, Jose Cifuentes scored and assisted to kickstart the club’s faltering MLS campaign.
Turning goalscorer and provider in the 3-0 victory over St Louis, Jose Cifuentes gave Rangers fans a glimpse into the type of player they could be getting should the Ecuadorean sign on at Ibrox in this window.
But as LAFC reportedly gear up to lose the player, despite their stiff negotiation position, some fans might think the club’s official social media were pointing to Jose Cifuentes’ Stateside exit with a Twitter double-entendre.
Jose Cifuentes LAFC Twitter double entendre?
Taking to the club’s social media channels, LAFC toasted Jose Cifuentes’ “one more for the road” as his injury time strike put the gloss on the victory and sent the Los Angeles faithful home happy.
But for those who’re such a way inclined, there’s a feeling the message might’ve had a deeper meaning with this LAFC’s final home game before a month-long MLS break.
There’s one more game to come this weekend, away to Minnesota on Saturday, before the clubs split for the Leagues Cup competition with their Liga MX counterparts and it could be a clean break for Rangers to complete a deal.
If that does go on to happen, then this would’ve been Jose Cifuentes’ final game in front of a home crowd at LAFC’s BMO Stadium and it’s quite the send off he’s given the support.
Who knows? The LAFC Twitter account might’ve just been pointing to Jose Cifuentes late strike in the win over St Louis.
But to those Rangers fans desperate to see a deal done as soon as possible, and any would be transfer sleuths, they’ve been gifted a perfect opportunity to read between the lines.
