Derek McInnes lines up double signing at Rangers before Lewis Ferguson transfer

Rangers are showing no signs of slowing down in the summer transfer window despite making five signings already.

The Light Blues went quiet in the market after finalising the blockbuster signing of Lawrence Shankland from Hearts earlier in the summer, with Danny Rohl’s sudden departure to Red Bull Salzburg turning their attention away.

However, having quickly installed Derek McInnes in the Ibrox hot seat, Andrew Cavenagh and Co. have picked up right where they left off, announcing four new signings in the space of a week.

The Scottish Premiership opener against Dundee United is less than a month away, and McInnes’ squad is shaping up nicely, but the work is not done yet.

Rangers zero in on two signings as McInnes plan emerges

Lewis Ferguson has emerged as the absolute dream target this summer at Ibrox, but there are no guarantees that the Glasgwegian outfit can get it over the line.

The Bologna captain would cost over £15million, and Rangers would need the structure of the deal to be in their favour, amid competition from other clubs.

Furthermore, the Govan club have two bigger priorities to address, with a first-choice right winger and another centre-back high on their shortlist, according to Rangers Review.

Rangers want a top winger to facilitate McInnes‘ 4-4-2 formation, while there is also a desire to further bolster the options in the backline.

The Premiership heavyweights have been linked with several wingers this summer, with a return to Ibrox mooted for both Mikey Moore and Vaclav Cerny.

However, it remains to be seen who the club are targeting to sign at centre-back.

Ferguson and right-back may still arrive at Ibrox

Rangers‘ desire to sign a winger and a centre-back does not mean they will not pursue a move for Ferguson.

The Cavenagh-led club have evidently had tentative talks to explore a move for the Scotland international, while a right-back is also on the agenda.

Rangers were heavily linked with a move for Westerlo full-back Bryan Reynolds, but he is now on his way to Rennes.

This may see the Glasgow outfit turn their attention back to Hampus Skoglund, whose representatives have met club officials on at least one occasion.
