Danilo coudl soon sign for Rangers which means that we are either skint or are cooking the books depending on where you turn on social media after what has been a busy transfer window so far.

Michael Beale has been backed by the Light Blues board – as had been promised by James Bisgrove – and a new look team for 2023/24 has been delivered.

Should Danilo be confirmed as a Rangers player, it will be the most expensive forward line assembled since 2001.

The reported fee for Danilo is around the £6m plus add-ons mark which would take him to third place on Rangers biggest fees table.

With Sam Lammers costing £3.5m and Cyriel Dessers arriving from Cremonese in a £5.6m deal, Michael Beale’s new strike force could cost a combined £15m – give or take.

Danilo deal shows Rangers board backing for Michael Beale

Not bad for a club that is skint.

When the summer started with Kieran Dowell, Dujon Sterling and Jack Butland being announced on free transfers, a few eyebrows were raised, but these players were out of contract and available.

They were always going to be announced sooner.

It is the ones that are under contract and need big fees that take time.

In 2001, Dick Advocaat had an embarrassment of riches in Tore Andre Flo, Ronald de Boer, Michael Mols, Shota Arveladze, Claudio Caniggia, Peter Lovenkrands, Kenny Miller, Billy Dodds, Neil McCann and Andrei Kanchelskis and still didn’t win the league.

Having a lot of options is great but this proved that a manager still has a battle to keep them all match sharp and hungry to play.

Finding the right combination is key to success.

There was a lot of money spent in assembling that forward line only to end the season trophyless.

Hopefully, Michael Beale doesn’t suffer the same fate and that Danilo brings the title that Tore Andre Flo was unable to.
