Cyriel Dessers remains at Rangers after the winter transfer deadline has been and gone.

The big Nigerian striker, 30, was hotly tipped to leave Ibrox at the turn of the year with Dessers himself even suggesting a move could be on the cards.

But after a resurgent run of form Cyriel Dessers finds himself back in the team and back amongst the goals, netting five times in his last seven games.

With Dessers staying put, one team of would-be suitors have also opted to raid one of Rangers’ Scottish Premiership rivals instead.

Leganes sign Cyriel Dessers alternative

La Liga outfit Leganes were linked to Cyriel Dessers earlier in January but a transfer move never materialised in Spain.

Indeed, Rangers were subject to enquiries about Cyriel Dessers from across Europe with clubs in France and Italy also routinely mentioned.

But instead of plunging for Rangers hitman Dessers, Leganes have looked further north as they raid the Scottish Premiership.

That’s because the Spanish outfit have reportedly forked out £600k to sign wantaway Aberdeen forward Duk to compound the Dons’ miserable form.

On a busy transfer deadline day at Leganes, the Spanish outfit also added former Rangers left-back Borna Barisic to their squad.

Cyriel Dessers has ‘unfinished business’ at Rangers

Rangers fans will have mixed opinions about Cyriel Dessers staying at Ibrox beyond the transfer window.

The big striker is one of the senior players in the Ibrox dressing room and has contributed 18 goals already this season.

That’s not easy to replace, even if the 30-year-old isn’t getting any younger.

Rangers will struggle to recoup the £4.5m they paid to sign Cyriel Dessers from Cremonese in the summer of 2023 and this might’ve been one of the final chances to do so.

Nonetheless, Dessers insists he has ‘unfinished business’ at Rangers and now it’s on the big striker to go and carve out a legacy in Glasgow.

“I feel like I’m in a good place,” Dessers said. “I’ve been feeling that for a couple of weeks.

“I’ve been working hard on and off the pitch and then then if you get the moments like this, to show it, and then you need to show it.

“No talks [about my future] at all. I don’t mind that. I try to focus on the football be the things that are happening on the pitch.

“Those are the things that I can control. And like Sunday, I’m just happy to be out there with the guys and fight for the points and be important. That’s what I want.

“There’s a lot of unfinished business at Rangers for me. That’s also why I kept pushing in the last weeks, in the gym, in training, in the minutes that you get, that’s because of that.”
