Couhaib Driouech Rangers coach clue sends transfer deadline day sleuths into overdrive

Couhaib Driouech is a name some Rangers fans might recall from the summer transfer window.

The Moroccan-Dutch winger, 22, was linked to Rangers in the summer after an explosive season with FC Excelsior in the Eredivisie.

But Rangers wound up disappointed when Couhaib Driouech eventually moved to PSV Eindhoven and it appeared the Ibrox club had missed out on another top young target.

PSV reportedly paid only £3m to sign Driouech in the summer but it hasn’t really worked out at the Philips Stadion this season.

Fast forward to January’s transfer deadline day and thanks to one Rangers coach the named Couhaib Driouech is once again on the lips of Gers fans.

Rangers on winger transfer hunt

Rangers have seen a late approach for Union Berlin winger Yorbe Vertessen fall short with the attacker already agreeing a move to RB Salzburg in Austria.

But the doomed move gives an indication of Rangers’ transfer plans as the hours tick on down this deadline day with a wide man very much in the club’s sights.

Rabbi Matondo is already making waves at Hannover 96 and the Gers have freed up space and wages in their squad to sign an alternative.

Couhaib Driouech is yet to start an Eredivisie game for PSV Eindhoven this season and given the stiff competition at the Dutch club, the Rangers murmurs have started.

Largely the resurgent links to Couhaib Driouech stem from a tweet from what on first glance appears an innocuous X account.

X user Euan Baillie has claimed that Rangers have agreed a £3.5m loan-to-buy deal for Couhaib Driouech with the transfer to be announced directly.

Whilst ordinarily we’d take such claims with a pinch of salt, a quick glance at some of the accounts following Euan Baillie will make for interesting reading for Rangers fans.

Bailie is followed by BBC pundits such as Michael Stewart and Tom English, as well as journalist Jordan Campbell.

But more pertinently to the Ibrox club, Baillie is followed by current Rangers coach and Philippe Clement assistant Alex Rae.

It’s not much proof of anything but on transfer deadline day, the claim has sent the transfer sleuths a’sleuthing.

Rangers News have contacted Driouech‘s representation for clarification.
