Confusion around fee as Rangers exit nears for summer transfer misfit

Sam Lammers is a player who has frustrated throughout his short time at Rangers and that time could be about to end.

Eredivisie outfit Utrecht are said to be close to agreeing a loan deal for the 26-year old who has struggled since missing a series of sitters, including an Old Firm shocker at Ibrox.

There is some early confusion over the proposed deal though as Sam Lammers looks to start again and put his Rangers nightmare behind him as the clock ticks on his potential exit.

A damning statistic was doing the rounds on social media, a comparison of all Rangers strikers saw Lammers, who was hailed as intelligent and a good fit for his plan by Michael Beale, finish bottom in terms of chance conversion.

With an expected goals tally of 10 but only two goals scored, it doesn’t take a genius to work out that the former Serie A striker has been missing a lot of chances.

He had looked promising in pre-season, arguably looking better than any of the summer signings and that £3m was money well spent.

After no clear indication of any buy clauses, one has emerged via the Dutch media and reported by a local source.

Rangers will be happy to get as much of that money back as possible and a claim made by The 4th Official on Patreon suggests that we might not be taking as big a hit as first feared.

An initial loan deal with an option to buy clause of £2.35m isn’t great but it’s also better than his value completely disappearing or him sitting in the stands collecting a wage every week without contributing on the pitch.

The situation has improved recently thanks to the work of Gers boss Philippe Clement, players like Kieran Dowell and Dujon Sterling have started playing their part and Ridvan Yilmaz has looked like the player we thought we were signing.

The manager has to be given whatever he and Nils Koppen manage to bring in to allow them to correct the mistakes of the summer.

Starting with anything he gets out of shipping Lammers to the Netherlands.
