Rangers summer signing Sam Lammers may already be on the move with Dutch side FC Utrecht now trying to secure a January deal.

Rangers decided to back Michael Beale over the summer, investing plenty of money in his hand-picked targets – and there may be some regret over that now.

The Gers invested in three new attackers with Sam Lammers, Cyriel Dessers and Danilo all arriving at Ibrox.

Danilo is injured after blowing hot and cold, Dessers is yet to really impress and the less said about Lammers, the better.

Beale was sacked just two months into the new season and Rangers are now left with his misfits under Philippe Clement.

Rangers forward Sam Lammers could now join Utrecht

Lammers cost Rangers around £3.5million as the Dutchman attempted to get his career back on track.

After initially excelling in the Netherlands, Lammers struggled with Atalanta and then had three difficult loan spells with Eintracht Frankfurt, Empoli and Sampdoria.

Rangers pounced, hoping that Lammers would rediscover his best form – but that really hasn’t happened.

Mostly deployed as a number 10, the 26-year-old has managed just two goals and two assists in 31 appearances for Rangers.

Fans have been left hugely disappointed and his reduced role of rate – one start in Rangers’ last nine league games – could lead to a departure.

De Telegraaf reporter Jeroen Kapteijns now claims that Eredivisie side Utrecht are trying to finalise the signing of Lammers.

It’s suggested that Rangers are willing to let Lammers leave on loan after the signing of Fabio Silva with Utrecht now working on a deal.

Utrecht currently sit 13th in the Eredivisie table, just three points clear of a relegation playoff spot.

Lammers may now be brought in with the idea of helping Utrecht pull away from relegation fears and few Rangers fans would shed a tear at his departure.
