Clement sweat as Rangers transfer hits Lewandowski-esque snag

Rangers faced Dumbarton in the early throws of Storm Isha as wind and rain lashed down in the foothills of the castle and yet some decent football was still played, unfortunately, the weather has intervened in Philippe Clement’s transfer plans.

The Gers boss has been linked with numerous players in this window and yet only one name has been added to his squad and unveiled to an excited Ibrox crowd.

Up next could be Mohamed Diomande, however, Chris Jack has revealed that there has been a hitch with his move to Rangers which will only serve to frustrate Philippe Clement further.

Rangers sweat as Philippe Clement has to wait for target

The deal to bring the Nordsjaelland midfielder to Scotland was made complicated by the fact that the Danish Superliga outfit are currently in America.

According to Jack, the 22-year old was set to arrive on Monday only for Storm Isha to put paid to this.

Reports of flights from Manchester to Dublin taking off only to be diverted to Belfast, Glasgow and then, eventually, having to land in Paris and Bordeaux tells you everything you need to know about how bad conditions have been coming over from the Atlantic.

Rangers could have done without the delay and it is only fortunate that the transfer is all but sealed other than a medical needing to be passed by the Ivorian – imagine if this had happened on deadline day.

It’s not the first time something like this has happened although, thankfully, there are no doubts about the transfer being completed, just yet.

What has to go down as one of the biggest sliding doors moments in English football is Robert Lewandowski’s aborted move to Blackburn Rovers due to the volcanic ash cloud event of 2010.

With 21 goals already for Lech Poznan, the Polish legend was one of Europe’s hottest properties but planes being grounded and flights being cancelled meant that Lewandowski and his agent looked elsewhere.

Borussia Dortmund won the race, Blackburn continued their downward spiral, and the rest, is history.

Hopefully, a similar fate doesn’t see Rangers suffer too.
