Bologna senior figure issues key assessment on Lewis Ferguson as Rangers hold talks over big-money transfer

Rangers have been sent another indication of Bologna’s stance on their star midfielder Lewis Ferguson this summer.

Derek McInnes is a huge fan of the Scotland international, but any deal to bring him to Ibrox is going to be an expensive one.

Rangers have held talks to sign Ferguson, and there is a possibility of them using the captain’s armband as a potential makeweight to bring him to Glasgow.

If Lewis Ferguson joins post the World Cup, who should Derek McInnes name the Rangers captain?

This is assuming Nicolas Raskin leaves Rangers…

Bologna assistant manager hints at Lewis Ferguson staying in Italy

Bologna’s assistant manager Andrea Tarozzi seems to be stating that the plan is for the Scotland international to stay put this summer.

Despite growing links with a number of clubs, including a potential return to Ibrox, Tarozzi seems to be indicating that Ferguson is a part of Domenico Tedesco’s plans for next season.

When he was asked about the 26-year-old, the assistant boss said that he expects Tedesco to play the midfielder in his best position in order to maximise his output.

Tarozzi told TMW: “That’s more of a question for the coach. Ferguson is a very important player for us, in fact, a fundamental one.

“We know what he’s done in recent years at Bologna, and I’m sure the coach will find the best position for him to showcase his qualities.”

Will Rangers move on from the Ferguson chase?

Given the comments above, it makes sense for the Gers to move to alternative targets, especially if they are not getting any indicators from the player that he is keen on moving.

Bologna seem to be putting the word out that the midfielder is not for sale, and the only way he’d be able to leave is if he informs the club of his decision.

Thus far, talks with Rangers or anyone do not appear to have reached an advanced stage, as Ferguson has still to decide if he wants to stay at Bologna.

There’s a good chance that the Ibrox outfit look at other options in his price range and see if they can bring in someone of that calibre.
