An immediate boardroom transfer summit at Bologna’s Casteldebole training centre has put Rangers on high alert, with two Ibrox stars dominating the Italian club’s summer planning.

According to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato Web, a high-level transfer meeting to explicitly structure Bologna’s midfielder recruitment strategy this summer is scheduled for Monday.

The summit will see technical director Giovanni Sartori and sporting director Marco Di Vaio lock in talks with new head coach Domenico Tedesco, with CEO Claudio Fenucci also set to arrive at the facility to finalise and greenlight official proposals.

At the top of their agenda is the future of Rossoblu captain Lewis Ferguson, who is the subject of enquiries from Rangers this summer.

Will you take Lewis Ferguson back at Rangers this summer?

Connor Barron to feature prominently

While Rangers have been heavily linked with a move for Ferguson, it emerged on Sunday that Bologna have rekindled their interest in Connor Barron.

The Italian hierarchy have a long-standing fixation with the 23-year-old Scot, having unsuccessfully tried to secure his signature when he departed Aberdeen back in 2024.

Rangers firmly rebuffed an enquiry during last season’s summer transfer window under former sporting director Kevin Thelwell, but the landscape has shifted.

Bologna value Ferguson in the premium, eight-figure bracket amid fierce domestic competition from Roma and Atalanta.

However, the immediate summit in Bologna may centre around using Barron as a ‘partial counterpart’ in a spectacular player-plus-cash swap deal involving Ferguson.

By inserting Barron into the equation, Rangers could significantly slash the cash required to bring Ferguson back to Ibrox.

Nicolas Raskin has been linked with a Rangers exit…

Nicolas Raskin also wanted amid Rangers interest in Ferguson

Barron is not the only Ibrox asset being evaluated by the Italian board in Casteldebole.

The report confirms Nicolas Raskin remains a prominent figure on Bologna’s watchlist, as they look to bolster their options in midfield.

Raskin, who is currently generating immense mainstream buzz on the global stage with Belgium, is widely expected to find himself at the centre of a continental bidding war this summer.

New Rangers boss Derek McInnes faces a delicate balancing act. While he is an immense admirer of Barron from their time at Aberdeen, cashing in on Raskin or utilising him in negotiations could similarly unlock the financial leverage needed to land Ferguson.

With Bologna’s entire executive branch converging at the training centre today to authorise their next move, the Premiership giants can expect communication very soon.

The Italian war room has drawn its battle lines, and Ferguson’s path back to Glasgow looks increasingly intertwined with the futures of Rangers’ own midfield engines.
