Rangers fans are awaiting January arrivals but may have to temper expectations after Philippe Clement’s post-Hibs press conference.

Gers need defenders amid an injury crisis and are being linked with some names but the manager has seemed to suggest that there won’t be much money to spend this month.

There is still plenty of time in the month to get deals done, and perhaps trim some fringe men to free up money and space.

Rangers reignite interest in Bamo Meité

Rangers are once again being linked with Marseille centre-half Bamo Meité after reportedly having an interest last summer.

The 23-year-old is believed to want an exit from the French side after barely featuring since making his loan move from Lorient permanent.

Rangers are said to be interested in Meité along with Montpellier, and he is said to have a release clause in his contract.

Foot Mercato previously reported that Roberto de Zerbi doesn’t fancy the player but Marseille would prefer an initial loan with an obligation to buy.

Rangers News detailed the potential red flag around Meite after taking a look at his stats.

Clement claim and Stewart address

That is a deal that may actually suit Rangers as Philippe Clement yesterday made an ominous claim about not having money to spend at the moment.

And he says CEO Patrick Stewart will address the media and fans about the lay of the land for January.

Speaking post-match after the draw with Hibs, the manager said: “That’s something that Patrick will address towards you guys.

“He wants to give that explanation what is the plan for January.

“I think every manager feels that (they could use more players), and for sure in the situation we are.

“For the moment with injuries and everything, but there’s also the situation of the club. You need to pay it also, and I’m not the one who can pay that. I don’t have that money.”

Fraser’s Rangers aim

Robbie Fraser completed his loan move to Livingston days after featuring in an Old Firm derby win at Gers’ home.

That’s exactly what he wants to get back to and the left-back is determined to use his loan for that end goal.

He said: “It’s quite a change for me as a couple of days earlier I was part of one of the biggest games you can play in. My motivation is absolutely to come out on loan and get games so I can establish myself.

“I want to show I am more than capable. I want to test myself and I back myself completely and hopefully I can get a run of games to show I can do that.

“If I can get that run then I’ll be in a better place when I return to Rangers and try to get into the first team more often. That is the goal for coming to Livingston, to show what I can do as I certainly know I have it in me.

“It was a nice little taster but I want more. My deal at Rangers ends in the summer of 2026 so I have a little bit of time.

“I have six months here and then a year to try to force myself into the Rangers team and I know that’s not an easy feat but I have full belief in myself.”
