Rangers CEO Patrick Stewart will address the Ibrox club’s supporters imminently about the financial situation in Govan this January transfer window.

The Ibrox side remain in the midst of a stuttering rebuild as Philippe Clement’s energy-sapped and injury-plagued squad ambles from away day disaster to away day disaster.

Kris Boyd has called the club’s weak-willed defending and lack of physically ‘glaring’ with Rangers fans expecting defensive reinforcements this winter.

But despite shareholder and interim chairman John Gilligan previously pledging transfer funds earlier in the season, Philippe Clement has braced Ibrox fans for disappointment.

When asked about signing a new defender this January, a frustrated Clement ominously warned supporters that Patrick Stewart would be addressing them in the coming days.

Philippe Clement on Patrick Stewart

“That’s something that Patrick will address towards you guys,” said Clement when asked about new additions this January.

“He wants to give that explanation what is the plan for January.

“I think every manager feels that (they could use more players), and for sure in the situation we are.

“For the moment with injuries and everything, but there’s also the situation of the club. You need to pay it also, and I’m not the one who can pay that. I don’t have that money.”

Rangers transfer window disappointment

The comments have compounded what was a bitterly disappointing afternoon for Rangers fans, who’d gone into the clash with Hibs full of renewed optimism.

After hammering Old Firm rivals Celtic, Rangers had the chance to go within eight points of the Parkhead side and put the pressure on their Old Firm rivals ahead of the trip to St Mirren.

As it transpires, Rangers end the weekend 13 points behind their Old Firm rivals in the Scottish Premiership having won only three of ten away games this season.

The situation has immediately heaped the pressure on Philippe Clement with Rangers a mile off it in every department and fans still very much sceptical about the Belgian’s credentials.

Philippe Clement’s comments on the transfer budget also won’t inspire confidence that the club’s much-discussed rebuild is going to continue apace this month either.

It very much appears like cash is tight at Rangers and we’ll await confirmation from Patrick Stewart as the club’s floundering squad break Ibrox hearts for the umpteenth time this season.
