Rangers looked set to miss out on Chelsea defender Aaron Anselmino amid interest from Ligue 1 outfit Marseille.

This is after the Scottish Sun claimed last week that Rangers were eyeing a deadline busting move for the 19-year-old Argentina centre-back.

But according to one Italian journalist who has been following Aaron Anselmino’s proposed move to Marseille closely, the Gers might just be back in with a shout.

Aaron Anselmino to Marseille collapses

Aaron Anselmino’s proposed move to Marseille has now collapsed on transfer deadline day.

That’s according to Italian journalist Luca Bendoni, who reported that the proposed transfer switch hit a late snag earlier on deadline day.

Bendoni is now reporting on X that the deal is ‘off’ with Anselmino‘s immediate future now back up in the air.

But whilst it remains unclear where Anselmino might end up before this evening’s deadline, it is unlikely to be Rangers as things stand.

Do Rangers need Aaron Anselmino?

Rangers did need defensive reinforcements earlier in the transfer window but suddenly the Ibrox side look to be getting an increasing number of options back into the team.

John Souttar made a goalscoring return to the starting XI in the 4-0 win over Ross County whilst Clinton Nsiala was given the sponsor’s Man of the Match in the game at Ibrox.

Robin Propper also came off the bench in the match whilst Rangers captain James Tavernier has deputised in the absence of Leon Balogun and Dujon Sterling in recent weeks.

Rangers also added Lille defender Rafael Fernandes on loan and suddenly it looks like Philippe Clement has other priorities as the transfer window prepares to close.

Aaron Anselmino joined Chelsea in a £15m deal from legendary Argentine club Boca Juniors in the summer and is a highly-rated prospect in the game.

Whilst the defender joined Chelsea in August, Anselmino spent the second half of the Argentine season on loan at La Bombanera and has only now joined up with the Blues.
