He made his Chelsea first-team debut last season and produced a string of impressive performances, but a knee injury has restricted his playing time so far this campaign.

The Gers were linked with a loan swoop for the Scotland youth international in December [Scottish Sun]. In response, Steven Gerrard praised Gilmour heavily but played down the links.

At the time, Lampard said he was against a loan exit for the young midfielder, but when asked about Gilmour’s short-term future after his side’s FA Cup Fourth Round win over Luton Town on Sunday afternoon, the Chelsea boss refused to rule it out.

“At the moment, he won’t go on loan but we will keep it open until the end of the month,” he said [Daily Mail].

Rangers are relatively well-stocked in midfield right now with Steven Davis, Joe Aribo, Glen Kamara and Bongani Zungu all fully fit, while Ryan Jack made his comeback from injury against Ross County on Saturday afternoon and Scott Arfield is set to return next month.

There’s also reportedly a chance that young Bournemouth midfielder Nnamdi Ofoborh could join the club this month [Daily Record].

Yet, if there’s a chance of bringing Gilmour to Ibrox, it’s something Rangers should explore.

He’s only 19 and is still relatively slightly built, but he has outstanding technical ability and he knows the club well.

Bringing in a player of his quality would provide a big boost to a squad who are set to be competing in multiple competitions over the coming months, with a 55th top-flight title not the only silverware up for grabs.

Another product of the Gers academy has earned rave reviews for a stunning debut performance for his loan club on Saturday afternoon.
