With Philippe Clement looking for inspiration and Rangers struggling to break St Mirren down, a look at the bench provided an obvious substitute.
The manager isn’t helped by a squad that continues to let him down, however, he also has to stop making baffling decisions.
The sight of Kieran Dowell on the bench continues to frustrate given his contribution since joining the club but Oscar Cortes not getting any game time when Rangers are crying out for creativity just doesn’t make sense.

Why Oscar Cortes should be back playing for Rangers
Clement has picked the Colombian winger, 21, in his last four squads after retiring from long-term injury.
Despite this, Cortes has yet to step foot on the pitch.
What makes matters worse, is that Rangers are desperately short of wingers with Vaclav Cerny the only natural fit.
Cortes might have been out of action for most of the season, but he has been in full training for weeks and played 45 minutes for the B team, looking sharp in the process.
If he can play that long for the B team, 15-30 minutes for the first team shouldn’t be out of the question.
Clement and ant being helped by some of the players in his squad, but he isn’t helping himself either.
Will Clement get the chance to ‘find solutions’?
The defence doesn’t have quite the same depth as the forward line with Clement providing an update on the centre-half issue after Leon Balogun limped off in the 20th minute:
“Not only John [Souttar] but also Nana [Kasanwirjo], who is not available anymore. So, we need to find solutions,” said Clement.
“What we did with Dujon [Sterling] playing there. He played a really good game in that way, only the mistake at the end. But the rest of the game was good, so you need to find solutions, and we need to find solutions as a squad to solve things. That’s part of being in football.”
The only question is, whether or not Clement will be given the chance to find solutions or if someone else will inherit the problem.
