As Rangers drew 1-1 with Hearts, one of the Jambos’ key first-teamers has caught the eye after previously being touted as a replacement for an Ibrox star.

Ex-Everton star Beni Baningime has impressed in the middle of the park for Robbie Neilson’s side all season and some Rangers fans have previously sounded the player out as a potential Glen Kamara replacement.

There are visible similarities in the two players’ games and with Kamara being touted for bigger and better things in the future, Baningime could very much soften the blow.

Only 23, the midfielder has that Kamara-like ability to take the ball in tight spaces, show good feet to turn into space and move it on, as well as an ability to break up play.

Whilst Rangers were at times unplayable at Ibrox – particularly in the first half – Baningime was an influential player for Hearts as they fought their way back into the game.

John Lundstram and Glen Kamara dominated the midfield in the first half but alongside Cameron Devlin, Baningime managed to dig their way back into the game in the second half.

Rangers should’ve been out of sight before Craig Halkett scored from a late corner following an uncharacteristic flap from Allan McGregor and the match stands as two points dropped.

But with Hearts still unbeaten, Rangers fans may point to one of the key reasons why in Baningime having previously urging the club to keep tabs on the Congolese midfielder.

Not that Rangers should be in any rush to replace Finnish international Kamara following a contract extension earlier in the season.

Signed from Dundee for a reported £50k in January 2019, Kamara has gone on to become one of Rangers’ most influential players and is now contracted to Ibrox until 2025.
