Where three names linked to Rangers manager job are now amid Philippe Clement sack demands

It looks like Philippe Clement is going to be in charge of Rangers for the foreseeable future as the dust settles on a disastrous Scottish Cup exit.

No manager has presided over an Ibrox defeat to lower league opposition which has seen it ranked as one of the worst defeats in living memory – and yet the CEO stands by his man.

There has been no vote of confidence, with a previous statement from Patrick Stewart suggesting that there were no guarantees that Clement would keep his job at Rangers, should results not improve.

What are the three bosses linked to Rangers up to now?

After every bad result this season, the same three names keep coming back to the surface, but how are they getting on after recent links to the most pressurised job in Scottish football?

Kevin Muscat

Said to have made it to the last two when Clement was given the job, the former Rangers right-back has long been a popular option amongst the support.

Primarily, because he has a defined style of play that involves a high intensity attacking philosophy.

He has also now tasted league success in three different countries after guiding Shanghai Port to the Chinese Super League title

Muscat knows Rangers, Scotland, is a proven winner, and plays football in a way that fans would get behind.

Kjetil Knutsen

The Bodo/Glimt manager has seen his name linked with Rangers and several other high-profile jobs due to being able to work on a budget but produce consistently good teams.

Having won the Norwegian title in four out of the last five seasons, despite regularly losing his best players, Knutsen is another who has been close to being appointed at Ibrox.

His lack of experience at a ‘big’ club could be a factor and the completely different tactical approach that he would need to develop against teams that sit in for 90 minutes.

This is balanced by his ability to build a winning team and one that can compete in Europe on a relative shoestring.

Steven Gerrard

The Rangers support seems to be split on Gerrard returning to the club, should Clement be sacked.

He sets high standards, is the type of figure head that the club needs, however, there are huge question marks over his tactical nous after two successive failures.

As with Clement though, Gerrard struggled away from Ibrox and against the low block too.

Clement clings to his job, for now, but belief in his ability to turn things around over the long term is almost non-existent.

Every run of good form gets spectacularly halted with a resounding thump, with the latest hitting even his most ardent of backers hard.
