Should £22m Aston Villa deal worry Rangers fans over Alfredo Morelos?

Another Rangers game, another Alfredo Morelos goal, and another reason for the likes of Aston Villa to be considering a move for Rangers’ main man.

The Colombian striker is on red-hot form and took his tally to 22 for the season following the 2-0 win over Livingston.

Dean Smith dropped a not-so-subtle hint [Birmingham Mail] that Villa are watching the forward, but should the Birmingham club’s summer transfer dealings worry Rangers supporters?

Villa – who were newly promoted from the English Championship – have already shown courage in the transfer window and splashed out £22m on Brazilian forward Wesley Moraes in the summer.

Signing him from Belgian side Club Brugge, the physical, powerful style of the burly striker is very similar to that of Morelos, and at 22 he’s also very young.

It’s interesting the Villa Park club are reportedly considering a move for the Colombian given they have Wesley on their books, but they may well consider both players fitting into their style.

Would they splash out similar money on another striker so soon after signing the Brazilian striker?

It’s hard to say, but it shows cojones on Villa’s part to spend so much money on a player the season that they earn promotion. Their intentions are clear – they want to stay up.

Steven Gerrard is adamant he wants Morelos to stay – even if he admits there may not be an awful lot he can do about it [Daily Record] – and if Villa want him they could well need to part with a Scottish transfer record fee.

Now sitting 17th in the table, Aston Villa are very much still in a relegation dogfight and could find themselves in trouble come the end of the campaign.

For some, the question shouldn’t be ‘can Aston Villa tempt Rangers with a mega bid for Morelos?’, it should be ‘is it worth Morelos moving to Villa only to stuck in England’s second-tier next season?’
