As quoted by the Birmingham Mail, Aston Villa manager Dean Smith has praised Alfredo Morelos, amid transfer speculation linking the Premier League outfit with the Rangers striker.
The Sun claimed last month that top-flight English clubs Villa and Crystal Palace were considering a £20m swoop for the Gers goal machine.
Morelos has 21 goals for the season and nine in his last nine appearances [Soccerbase], ensuring speculation is only intensifying.
When asked to comment on a potential deal, Smith remained coy but did move to praise the Gers man for his outstanding strike against Porto.
“I certainly saw his goal last night,” Smith said, as quoted by the Birmingham Mail. “It was a very good finish.”
“He’s a player who is contracted to another football club and we aren’t a club that talks about them.”
Yet, he did go on to concede that he might be in the market for more firepower in the winter window.
“Possibly, simply because Keinan Davis has a hamstring injury at the moment so he’s one who is out,” Smith added.
“We’ve got young Wesley who is playing his first Premier League campaign like a few others are, so we will just have to wait and see until January.”
Smith was keen not to disrespect Rangers by discussing the future of one of their players, but he certainly didn’t distance himself from a move, either.
In fairness, after seeing Morelos thrive once again in the Europa League spotlight, who wouldn’t be interested in snapping him up?
With questions about his discipline now increasingly a thing of the past, Morelos is most managers’ dream. The Colombian is physical, intelligent, hard-working and most importantly, lethal in front of goal.
It’s highly likely that offers will come in in January, and Villa could be one of the clubs who attempt to swoop.
Following his equaliser in the first away game against Porto, we debated whether or not Morelos is ‘world-class’, on our new YouTube channel.
