There’s been a couple of times when Rangers fans have been left lamenting a failure to land Morgan Whittaker in January 2023.

Under the management of Michael Beale, Rangers tried and failed in a bid for the English attacker who’d impressed in the first half of the season at Plymouth Argyle.

Recalled by Swansea City before Rangers made their move, Morgan Whittaker wound up returning to Plymouth six months later and the winger has been making headlines ever since.

Rangers are reportedly back in the market for Whittaker but have been told in no uncertain terms where to go by Pilgrims manager Wayne Rooney.

And now Morgan Whittaker has shown precisely why with a stunning long-range goal in the English Championship.

Morgan Whittaker scores stunning long-range goal

Rangers fans will maybe want to watch this Morgan Whittaker stunning effort through the gaps in their fingers.

The talented attacker reacted quickly to a rebound and rasped a powerful drive past the helpless goalkeeper in Plymouth’s English second flight clash with QPR this weekend.

The bending left-foot effort shows precisely why Rangers are reportedly interested and it’ll have fans lamenting a failure to bring the now 23-year-old to Ibrox.

Rangers are said to have launched a fresh bid for Morgan Whittaker earlier in the summer.

With the package said to be worth up to £7m, reports have claimed that Plymouth want £10m for Whittaker in this window.

We’re not sure if this stunning goal from Plymouth’s 1-1 draw with QPR will have added a million or so to the Championship club’s transfer demands.

A talented player no doubt, Plymouth’s asking price might just be too rich for Rangers who are counting the cost of a failure to qualify for the Champions League.

Rangers remain on transfer hunt for attacker

So long as the transfer window remains open, chatter surrounding Rangers and Morgan Whittaker will continue.

With Wayne Rooney claiming only ‘crazy’ money will tempt the Pilgrims to sell, Rangers are hunting value for money in the transfer market.

There have been a number of wing players linked to Ibrox recently, from Josip Brekalo to Tiago Gouveia, and Philippe Clement is clear he expects movement this week.

Rangers have five days left to shift players in and out of the club with the Gers known to be on the hunt for another wide attacker.

“I expect a busy week but more busy with incoming and a few outgoing,” Clement told the press following victory over Ross County.

“Outgoing, not for players who were in the squad today, that’s clear. More outgoings for players who weren’t in the squad.”
