Wages could scupper Ben Davies’ potential Deadline Day loan exit from Rangers as Stoke City target the centre-back.
That’s according to Football Scotland, who claim that both the ex-Preston star’s current contract and potential wage demands are putting the Potters off a move.
Even in a loan sense the finances surrounding the deal appear to be impacting the Stoke City interest and it appears Ben Davies may well still be a Rangers player at midnight.
This also could have substantial knock-on effect with Rangers trying to secure the loan signing of Leicester City defender Harry Souttar.
The Gers are targeting the Australian defender but with Ben Davies currently occupying an expensive left centre-back slot in the squad his future could be central to the move.

Speaking about the player’s future, the host leading Rangers fan media Heart & Hand David Edgar spoke about the the future of Ben Davies.
Claiming that whilst Rangers are open to selling the player, the centre-back is determined to stay and fight for his place.
The comments also claim that the situation around Stoke-linked Ben Davies “will need to change” if Rangers want to sign Harry Souttar.
“There’s interest in Ben Davies from Stoke but the player has pretty much stated all throughout the summer that he’s quite happy to stay at Rangers and fight for his place,” David Edgar said.
“So that will need to change really before anything can go on (Rangers’ interest in Harry Souttar).”

Ben Davies could yet be set to move out on Deadline Day but it appears Stoke City have been turned off by the wages involved.
