English Championship Stoke City have been named as an interested party in Rangers centre-back Ben Davies ahead of the end of the transfer window.

But the English club have been rebuffed in their initial efforts to sign the 28-year-old who is determined to stay at Ibrox and fight for his place.

At least this is according to Heart & Hand and David Edgar, who made the claim on the platform’s Daily Update for 30th August, which is available to Patreon subscribers.

The Ben Davies to Stoke links come amid much speculation surrounding Rangers interest in Leicester City defender Harry Souttar.

According to David Edgar, any move for the Australian international could be dependent on Ben Davies being shipped out of Rangers via Stoke City or anywhere else.

“There’s interest in Ben Davies from Stoke but the player has pretty much stated all throughout the summer that he’s quite happy to stay at Rangers and fight for his place,” David Edgar said.

“So that will need to change really before anything can go on (Rangers’ interest in Harry Souttar).”

Rangers defender Ben Davies linked to Stoke City

Rangers struck a reported £4m deal to sign Ben Davies from Liverpool last season but the centre-back has struggled to capture the hearts of Ibrox supporters.

Couple that with the ex-Preston star also seeing his time at the club badly disrupted by injury and there has been a consistent suggestion Davies could leave the club this summer.

With Stoke City offering Ben Davies a potential route back to the English Championship the situation is set to come to a head in the final days of the transfer window.

But it appears that the centre-back doesn’t want to leave Rangers without proving his worth and the situation is threatening to have a transfer knock-on affect.

Whilst Rangers’ late transfer business remains up in the air, any move for Harry Souttar or the like might well depend on Stoke City or anyone else securing a move for Ben Davies.
