Umbro could cause Rangers nightmare flashbacks with new kit leak

There is a very obvious feeling that Rangers are at the beginning of a new era with everything that is going on right now.

Kevin Thelwell’s appointment as sporting director was a statement of intent and a new Rangers manager should have similar gravitas – Davide Ancelotti certainly ticks that box.

The 49ers Enterprises takeover is weeks away as well as several players being linked already to strengthen a Rangers squad that clearly needs a lot of work.

Rangers will look different in the boardroom and the players who start next season should also have a fresh look, both in terms of personnel and appearance.

If images on social media are correct, the move from Castore to Umbro could start off on the right foot with a new Rangers strip that has a familiar look.

New Rangers home kit leaked as Umbro go retro

The merchandise/kit deal with Castore was extended without ceremony two years ago and will now run until 2030.

Despite some complaints, the club wouldn’t have done this unless it was the best deal on the table.

Umbro has an emotional connection with Rangers given some of the classic kits that have been seen when trophies have been lifted in the past.

This leaked home strip though, has a hint of nightmare, rather than dreams of title success about it.

Why does new Umbro kit cause unwanted flashbacks

In a season when Rangers went through a whole Scottish Premiership campaign without losing and only conceding 13 goals, early exits in both cups shouldn’t have been a thing.

To make matters worse, Celtic had already been knocked out of both cups.

The Scottish Cup loss to St Johnstone was a farce given how dominant Rangers had been but mainly due to Zander Clark’s last-minute equaliser when he was left unmarked at a corner.

It was in the league cup though that Rangers must have regretted wearing a strip that would be remembered for all the wrong reasons.

A special edition cup strip saw the light of day once, in a 3-2 defeat to St Mirren, and the leaked Umbro kit looks very similar.

It was, arguably, the best strip that Castore produced, however, nobody wants to be reminded of what happened when it was worn.

Hopefully, Umbro’s version will have a bit more luck.
