Three inconsistent Rangers stars who play ‘one good game’ then ‘three bad games’ named

Former Celtic striker Andy Walker has called out three Rangers players who cannot find a suitable level of consistency at the club.

Rangers are on a dire run of form at the moment, particularly at Ibrox where they have lost their last five games across all competitions – an unprecedented feat.

The Light Blues have also conceded two goals in each of their last six Premiership games, something that last happened a staggering 131 years ago.

Nacho Novo can’t get his head around Rangers’ inconsistencies at the moment, highlighting the contrast between the Old Firm win and losing against sides they are expected to beat.

And it’s something Walker has been touching on whilst speaking to The Go Radio Football Show, explaining that some players can have one good game then three bad displays, naming who in particular.

Andy Walker calls out Leon Balogun, Robin Propper & Nedim Bajrami

Walker was critical of veteran defender Leon Balogun, £1.5m centre-back Robin Propper and £3.4m attacking midfielder Nedim Bajrami.

All three started on the bench against Hibs on Saturday as Rangers lost 2-0 at Ibrox on the Premiership. But Barry Ferguson promised changes to his starting XI, so the aforementioned trio could be drafted in to play Athletic Club tonight.

Walker said: “Given the level of performance the team have had on the European stage, I would have thought Barry would get as much experience as he can on the pitch (against Athletic Club).

“And I know he’s got no (John) Souttar, no (Mohamed) Diomande, so who can you bring in? Balogun, Propper, Bajrami? I mean, some of these players, they’ve been good for one game – it’s one good game then three bad games.

“So it’s really difficult to know what you’re going to get. There was only one young player on the bench at the weekend, Findlay Curtis. He came on for a couple of minutes but I don’t think he’s going to turn to any young players.

“Ross McCausland was on the bench but he didn’t come on. (Ianis) Hagi’s there, but I mean, Hagi’s been there for so long.

“So there might be changes that might surprise you, but whoever is coming in, it will be the same questions that people ask of the players who have been very inconsistent.”

Balogun, Propper & Bajrami analysed

Walker’s decision to bracket Balogun together with Propper and Bajrami is probably a little unfair.

The Nigerian has been the better performer this season out of the trio and he is expected to replace John Souttar in defence, particularly if Rangers plays three centre-backs.

Rangers News have advocated Propper’s stay beyond the summer given his experience, but the same cannot be said for Propper.

The Dutchman has been poor in his first season at Rangers after signing from FC Twente, with Ferguson benching him for the last two Premiership games.

Propper isn’t good enough for Rangers, while Bajrami is proving to be the same. The Albanian shone at the Euros last summer but hasn’t produced that regularly enough for Rangers.

His £3.4m price tag is looking like more wasted money for Rangers with a significant return on investment certainly not on the cards for him.
