‘That’s not Rangers’ – Peter Lovenkrands slaughters Ibrox squad and brands them ‘not good enough’

Peter Lovenkrands knows what it takes to hoist silverware above your head in the famous blue of Rangers Football Club.

Lovenkrands joined Rangers as a fresh-faced 20-year-old almost 25 years ago and went on to leave a huge impact on the club over six seasons.

It was another Great Dane in Brian Laudrup who recommended Lovenkrands to Rangers and the impact the club also had on the forward can be heard all the way down to the 45-year-old’s accent.

Having returned to the Rangers academy in a coaching capacity in recent seasons, the former Ibrox winger continues to tune in and has been aghast at the club’s form.

Now Peter Lovenkrands has gutted the misfiring Rangers squad and told them that they are ‘not good enough’ to wear the jersey.

Peter Lovenkrands – ‘that’s not Rangers Football Club’

Peter Lovenkrands has slaughtered the Rangers squad for their attitude and application in domestic matches.

The Rangers team has been dogged by wild inconsistency this season, something exemplified by the fact they are heading into a Europa League quarter final with Athletic Club whilst 15 points adrift in the Scottish Premiership.

Lovenkrands has challenged the Rangers team and reckons that whilst there’s plenty of talk, perhaps the players in the dressing room just aren’t good enough.

“It’s mindboggling sometimes,” Lovenkrands told Premier Sports. “You go into a game and after Fenerbahce away, the way they performed, they were fantastic.

”To then go and lose home games, how can one performance be like and then you go and get a performance like this afterwards?

”It’s not Rangers Football Club. That’s not what you do. We set the standard and you have players that just push and push and push.

”Maybe it’s just because the team, the players, are not good enough and they’re only good enough to do it every now and again.“

Peter Lovenkrands treble stat lays bare years of Rangers failure

As Celtic push for a sixth treble in nine seasons, Peter Lovenkrands was actually part of the last Rangers squad who managed such an achievement.

Lovenkrands was part of a star-studded Rangers team back in 02/03 who managed to lift all three domestic trophies against a Celtic team who reached that season’s UEFA Cup Final.

Lorenzo Amoruso secured the treble on his last game for Rangers, scoring the only goal in the 1-0 Scottish Cup win over Dundee at Hampden.

Prior to Celtic’s recent period of domination, Rangers had long held the world-record of seven domestic trebles with Celtic set to claim their ninth this season.

It’s a damning statistic and the underperforming Rangers side would do well to listen to Lovenkrands, who won seven major honours at Ibrox.
