Sunderland fans have raved about Rangers loanee Jordan Jones after his impressive cameo in their 3-0 win at Burton Albion on Saturday afternoon.

Jones joined the Black Cats during the January window following a disappointing first half of the season at Ibrox.

He showed glimpses of promise during the opening months, with his lively performance at Motherwell in September particularly encouraging for Bears.

However, the Northern Ireland international was hit with a seven-match SFA ban for breaching Covid regulations in November and subsequently dropped down the pecking order at Ibrox, failing to make another appearance prior to the loan move.

The early signs are that he will be much more involved at the Stadium of Light, as he’s featured in each of his adopted side’s last four league matches.

On Saturday afternoon, he was brought on for the final 23 minutes and quickly notched his first Sunderland assist.

The visitors were already two goals and a man up when Jones was introduced and he played a role in rounding off the scoring, after picking up the ball on the right and driving in-field before sliding a pass through to Charlie Wyke, whose first-time shot went in off the base of the left post.

It was a big win for Lee Johnson’s side, who have moved into the play-off spots and are only a point behind fifth-placed Portsmouth.

Jones tweeted after the game to mark the win and assist and supporters were quick to praise him for his contribution.
