Rangers completed phase one of the rebuild in the summer with Philippe Clement fully aware that there is still a lot of work to do.

One of the main tasks was replacing the five senior players who left with younger, more dynamic players and most of the new arrivals meet this criteria

Neraysho Kasanwirjo is one such individual who arrived on a loan to buy deal from Feyenoord with the Rangers manager landing a player who Liverpool boss Arne Slot rated highly.

Rangers get Neraysho Kasanwirjo signing seal of approval

The worst thing about the international break is that Rangers fans have had to wait to see both Kasanwirjo and Nedim Bajami.

Bajrami looked good for Albania but Kasanwirjo is a player with a degree of intrigue due to the uncertainty over where he will be deployed by Clement.

Like Dujon Sterling, Kasanwirjo might be seen in a number of positions.

Alfons Arts, Groningen’s assistant manager between 2020 and 2023 said of Feyenoord’s decision to sign the Netherlands Under-21 international, as told to The Rangers Review

“Arne Slot was looking for a player who could occupy more than one position across the defence and midfield and that’s one of the reasons that he took Nana to Feyenoord after we spoke with him.

“For Feyenoord at the price they could purchase Nana and given his versatility, it was an interesting deal.”

When Rangers announced the signing of Neraysho Kasanirjo, Philippe Clement hinted that a utility role could await the 22-year old:

“We are thrilled to welcome Neraysho to the football club and we believe he will be a big asset to the team.

“He can play in a number of defensive positions and will be a good option for the squad with the domestic and European commitments we have this campaign.

“He is looking forward to starting the next chapter in his career and we are pleased Neraysho has decided to join Rangers.”

Clement has Kasanwirjo position decision to make

Wherever Kasanwirjo plays, Clement will have to make a big decision.

Robin Propper won’t be dropped, and Leon Balogun and John Souttar are both players who the manager rates and trusts.

At right-back, Turkey-linked James Tavernier is undisputed first choice – for now.

Rangers need more athleticism, pace and aggression in the team, and this is exactly what Kasanwirjo will bring.

Arne Slot has shown the type of football he likes to play at Feyenoord and Liverpool with Clement hoping to be able to deliver a similar front foot style himself.

Finding a place in his team for Kasanwirjo will help his cause, he just has to decide where.
